Models

Models are simply a way to describe what God has done in the past. They do not prescribe what God is going to do in the future. In fact we can expect God to continually create new models. Models are helpful in discerning principles of effective church planting.

Daughtering
Concept:
- Mothering congregation embraces a vision of planting
- A planter is called on staff to plant a church
- Planter begins private phase
- Core group identified
- Birth of the new church
- Commissioning Service for new congregation
Advantages
- Stablity of core
- Relationship with mothering congregation
- Shared resources
Disadvantages
- New church tends to reach same group as mothering congregation
- Dysfunctions of the mothering congregation can follow to the daughter.
Pioneering
Concept:
- A planter locates in the target area
- Expanding network of small groups initiated
- Core group identified
- Facility secured for private phase and launch
- Birth of new church
Advantages
- New church is not encumbered by old traditions and structures
- Often able to reach a new community where few churches have been established
Disadvantages
- Core group turnover in first eighteen months
- Feelings of competitiveness from established churches

Second Campus
Concept:
- Mother Congregation begins a ministry at second campus
- Staff and leadership team give oversight to new campus
- Staff services both campuses throughout the week
- Second campus remains under organizational structure of primary campus
Advantages
- Congregation views second campus as adding ministries
- Second campus can minister to a different impact group with little disruption of to primary campus ministries
- Provides facilities for additional expansion
- Provides parking for additional ministries
Disadvantages
- Second campus must be close proximity to primary campus
- Second campus adds to administration load
